On Forgetting the Past - Comment to Sandra McLeman

Sandra McLeman:

If you do not forgive or forget the past then what do you do with it? Sweep it under the carpet and pretend it never happened? Is that what you are asking us to do?

In Seychelles like in most countries the past informs the present and will define our future to a large extent. The allied forces knew that when they evicted all Germanic people from Czechoslovakia, Poland and hitherto Eastern Parts of Germany and relocated them to Germany. Many of these Germanic peoples were living in these lands for several hundred years. But the allies knew that their continued presence on "occupied" land could be an excuse for future mischief in those areas. The same occurred throughout the Micronesian islands where the American occupying forces evicted residents of Japanese ancestry back to Japan. Many of whom had married local wives and were third of fourth generation residents who had never seen Japan. The American and British can redress past crimes against humanity and we cannot or should not? Why?

In our case, Rene exiled about 30% of our people. Yes some of them would have gone anyway. But a vast majority was content to stay in their homeland and work to build the country as Seychelles Pour Seychellois - we had just obtained Independence from British colonial rule, our tourism picture looked bright and our fishing industry looked bright, and we had agreed to work together to better our homeland. So most of us wanted to stay. My family included.

Most of these exiles were replaced by Fabrike who supported and continue to prop up the failed PP Collaborator regime.

Only now are we fully analyzing the full nature and extent of the corrosive impact that the Fabrike have had on our liberty and in supporting a system of corruption and the fleecing of our motherland. Take for instance your friend Jeyasingh - a Fabrike. He refuses to say categorically he was not involved in money laundering activities when he worked with Nouvobank - despite numerous opportunities to do so. Many of the top managers at Nouvobanq are Fabrike. This bank is reputed to be the conduit for the alleged extensive money laundering activities occurring in our motherland, not in the past, but now. These connections to PP Collaborator crimes against the Seselwa Rasin people and their Fabrike can be found at all levels of our society. They are given Fabrike passports in many cases exactly because of the role they play in propping up the PP and for their participation in their corruption. Are we supposed to ignore this, accept it, tolerate it? Which one? Would you in your country? If not, why ask us to do it in ours?

The past Ms. McLeman, is not so far in the past - it is with us now. If we ignore it, we forfeit our liberty, we forfeit our motherland. So we cannot ignore the past - we must be educated by it

  2. Indeed! Well spoken Mr. Gill! There are a lot more of this invasive species in our country and we will handle them one by one! Nouvobanq has Saeed from Pakistan. His debuty was also from there and you know what? He is now the GM of another state bank. Isn't it conspicuous that SPPF / Lepep does not have any Seselwa in these key posts where MONEY is being handled? Yes, akoz Seselwa pou war tou zot trik!! This is where the bulk of the corruption is happening! This is why Jeya Sing has 'Nothing to hide'. This is the typical defense of the boy who has been caught with his arm in the cookie jar!
Soon it will be animal farm all over again and Jeya will Sing like 'squealer'!!

  3. YES! The list of the Fabrike is very long indeed. We are compiling it and will publish it very soon. The first batch to be targetted are the ones who have become millionaires overnight and are doing their 'payback time' for Misel and Co.
They are the main instruments in this corruption business that is the SPPF / Lepep government.

We will not allow this cancer to engulf our country and we will rid this parasite once and for all!

What is becoming ever clearer to me, is that the PP have constructed a foundation built to a significant degree on Fabrike support. On this Fabrike foundation the PP has built a superstructure of Fabrike experts and supporters. Much like one would construct steel girders when constructing a skyscraper. The Fabrike are the steel framework.

Then the PP has grafted their systems of political control and corruption onto this superstructure consisting of many Fabrke in all critical aspects of our country - especially in the financial sector.

These Fabrike do not generally challenge the PP corruption and their abuses of Seselwa Rasin liberty.

It is therefore becoming evident to me that we have to dismantle this corrupt Fabrike system for us to reclaim our country from the corrupt PP Collaborators, and to install a truly democratic and liberal political system, and to ensure that our great grandchildren have a country to call their homeland.

This is a mission of extreme urgency.

  5. Well, in a way you are right as foreigners with priveleges do indeed function as foundation, but rotten foundations seldom last and need replacing often and/or constant maintenance.

Take Radovan Krejcir as a prime example. He functioned as a temporary foundation till there was no more of him left and his collapse would have caused the PL tower to tilt so he was conveniently replaced. Ramadoss is another who gets shuffled around as pillar. Rotten to the core, but being so massive there is still strength left. Ramadoss is being used for one purpose after the other(medical, university and now SCCI), but the day he loses it he is out in the cold wearing flip-flops.

Removing the rotten foundation is indeed a way to strenghten the structure, but I'd say tear down the whole thing and rebuild using local materials and know-how. We do have the know-how as well as the manpower. It's just a matter of giving them the chance to work for Seychelles, not for its leaders.
